Application
F-Decalin is a colorless, homogeneous liquid of high density, composed of ultra-pure perfluorodecalin and intended for ocular use. F-Decalin contains no biologically active components, is chemically and physiologically inert, and non-toxic. It is used as a medical device, particularly for unfolding detached retina, giant retinal tears, trauma, laser coagulation, and cryotherapy. It can also be used to elevate dislocated lenses.
Composition
F-Decalin is a sterile, bicyclic fluorocarbon compound with high density (1.91 g/cm³ at 35 ± 2 °C), consisting solely of C–C and C–F bonds, and contains no relevant amounts of biologically active components. Due to the exceptional stability of the C–F bonds, F-Decalin is chemically and physiologically inert and completely non-toxic.
Properties and Benefits
Gentle retinal unfolding and stabilization
Drainage of subretinal fluids
Elevation of dislocated lenses
Short-term tamponade
Excellent stability and biocompatibility
Available in “ready-to-use” syringes
